The Oaks Golf Course in Cottage Grove opened in 2003 and was designed by Greg Martin, who shaped the layout around the property's natural features rather than forcing the land to fit the course. Winding through mature oak trees, wetlands, and Koshkonong Creek, it offers a fun but challenging round with creative bunkering, rolling terrain, and some of the best-conditioned bent grass fairways and greens in the area. The layout has a unique mix of six par 3s and five par 5s, giving every round a little more variety than a typical course. My favorite holes are 1, 8, 9, 10, 15, and 18, each offering what I think makes the Oaks unique.
